11. Light up

Chapter eleven of Bike Easy is illuminating! There’s no need to stop cycling when the sun goes down. It’s as easy to ride at night as it is during the day. In fact, there are some advantages to cycling in the dark: outside the rush hours there tends to be less traffic about, and you get a better sense of what’s going on around you with cars’ headlights signalling their approach from miles away. Night riding can be exhilarating too – you see more of nearby objects and less of distant ones, so everything seems to be whizzing by and it feels as if you’re going faster than you actually are.
